When my dad told me he had joined a dating website, I was thrilled.  I grew up in a small town with a very small population, and I figured it would be good for him to expand his horizons.  When he told me about this woman that he found who was an art teacher, played the fiddle and was a vegetarian, I knew that the stars were lining up.  The funny thing is, years later she told me that she hadn’t even full activated her account, but they sent her a message saying this musician organic vegetable farmer wanted to message her, and she figured $20 was worth it to see what he was all about.  The only thing was, she lived in Arizona; my dad in California.  But they made it work, through many many miles driven and plane tickets purchased.  Von and I immediately clicked, and she’s actually the reason why I photograph weddings.  She introduced me to a photographer in her town, and I interned with him during the Summer of 2006, and after shooting weddings with him I completely fell in love with it.  So my dad found the love of his life, and I found a path of my own.  She’s pretty awesome

The Christmas after they first met, Von was shopping with her parents in her hometown when she came across a white blouse.  They had only been talking for a short time, but she figured “what the heck,” and bought it, just in case.  She showed it to me a couple years ago, tucked away in the back of her closet, and told me that she planned on wearing it at their wedding.  And a little over a year later, she did.  I walked her down the aisle, and had to hold back tears as Von’s smile grew wider the closer we got to my dad.  Their good friend Nancy officiated the ceremony, while their musician friends played music and everyone else surrounded them in the clearing, as they stood underneath two apple trees.  They exchanged their vows, Von giggled a lot, and I even got to present the rings! After the ceremony was over, they mingled with everyone for awhile before heading off to the reception at a friends house, which was filled with music, delicious food and so much love.  They have a huge circle of amazing friends, and they were surrounded by all of them.  It was amazing to be a part of their day, be a part of the ceremony, and still take some pictures (of course!)  I am so happy for them as they start their new journey, moving to Durango, Colorado.  I love them both so much and know that they have many more amazing adventures together.
